In an ideal condition the lower teeth in a closed position fit into the upper teeth with the jaw joints in fully seated position in their respective sockets. At this position the jaw opening muscle is fully relaxed and resting. As jaw functions the various muscle function as necessary, but the joint always comes to this position on final closure.
Headache, migraine, neck and shoulder pain, ear pain and vertigo can result from the way our teeth bite!!
It all depends on the position of our jaw joint (TMJ) when our teeth positions make the joint shift from its seated position to allow complete teeth contact a disharmony results. All the three components of our jaw system namely jaw joint TMJ; muscles and teeth can get damaged.
Signs and Symptoms:
Jaw damage can exhibit as
- Pain in front of the ears/eacpaia; Blocked ears
- Clicking joints
- Difficulty or pain while opening/closing the mouth
- Painful muscles
- Headache
- Vertigo/noise in the ear
- Neck and shoulder pain
- Teeth damage – wear, mobility, sensitents, flariar of teeth
